When Ruth was 19, she traveled from her house in New Zealand to visit her father’s family in Wales. That first wonderful glimpse of rolling green hills and charmed stone villages inspired her and started her down the cobbled path to the Spirit Houses she creates today.
Ruth tries to take pleasure and enjoy how much fun clay is. She loves textures, textures, textures and tries to incorporate as many as she can – thatched roofs, rough stone and pebble walls, or a touch of wood grain. She delights in windows of all shapes and sizes, a crooked chimney here and there, and always the door slightly open to welcome visitors … even the wee little hobbit-types or an occasional toad stopping by for tea.
Ruth tries for the unique and unexpected and imagines how the light from within illuminates the outside. How each house might look tucked in a lush knoll or sitting on top of a perfect hillside. She has always had a thing for hills and if you have ever been to New Zealand, you’d know why.
